The story of the design…
Trees are important for many different reasons, they give us oxygen to breathe, bear fruit and offer ancient wisdom to those who seek it.
Without the mulberry tree, we would have no silk.
Silk is said to have been discovered in China in around 4000 BC by the wife of the Yellow Emperor, Huangdi. A cocoon from the Bombyx mori moth dropped into empress Hsi-Ling-Shi’s cup of tea and started to unravel, revealing a glittering thread like nothing she’d seen before.
The empress was so taken by the beauty of the thread that she went on to develop sericulture and the loom to cultivate the art of silk production.
The pattern of this scarf was designed from an illustration of the bark of a 600-year-old mulberry tree in the ancient city of Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
This tree was thought to have died, though it was left as a historical monument of the times when trade on the silk road was at its peak in the city.
Around 20 years ago almost by magic, the tree came to life again and now is a symbol that shows the great resilience nature has in adapting to the times.
The Mulberry pattern is a classic House of Rolfe trademark as everything it represents is synonymous with the ethos of the brand.
Each colour variation is carefully considered to offer timeless jewel tones that add extra luxury to your ensemble.
